Russell H. Patterson, VMD, Diplomate ACVS

Dr. Russell Patterson is a board certified veterinary surgeon. He completed his veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984, and then moved to Springfield, MA for his 1-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital. His internship was followed by a 3-year residency in small animal surgery at the University if Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, with an emphasis in orthopedic and neurosurgical disease. Dr. Patterson earned board certification in 1993.

After Dr. Patterson's residency, he became the Chief of Surgery with Friendship Animal Hospital in Washington, D.C. until 1989, followed by a surgical position with Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, MD before coming to the Animal Surgical Clinic of Seattle in 1996.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Patterson has lectured at the University of Pennsylvania and at many professional organizations including the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Association of Veterinary Orthopedic Research and Education. His research articles on cranial cruciate repair techniques and the treatment of thoracic and lumbar fractures in dogs have been published in veterinary journals.

Dr. Patterson has particular interest and expertise in stifle biomechanics, spinal fractures and anterior cruciate ligament injury. Outside of work, Dr. Patterson and his family stay busy with soccer, whitewater kayaking, hiking, camping and skiing.
